How long is the siding warranted for?

Do I ever have to paint my siding?

No! CertainTeed siding is virtually maintenance free. The most you ever have to do is give your home a washing with soap and water once or twice a year.

Does it come with matching trim?

CertainTeed offers the widest variety of trim pieces in the industry. Everything from function utility trims to substantial wide trims resembling dimensional lumber, fluted cornerposts and decorative crown molding for window headers. Most items are available in all CertainTeed colors.

Does CertainTeed siding have seams?

CertainTeed siding offers longer length panels in both Monogram 46L (16’ and 20’ panels) and CedarBoards XL (16’8” panel). Other panels are generally available in 12' to 12.5' lengths, so it needs to be overlapped at the ends to cover an entire wall.

CertainTeed sidings are designed to provide a virtually seamless appearance and a good siding installer will lap you siding away from traffic to further minimize the laps.

What are the advantages of Longer Length Siding?

Longer Length Siding. Longer length sidings are generally extended versions of standard size siding products. Standard sidings are usually 12’ to 12-1/2’ long. With standard siding panels, seams appear every two to three feet. Longer length sidings are typically offered in 16’, 20’ and 25’ ranges. The primary benefit of longer length siding panels is that it reduces the number of seams on the wall. Siding seams can be an aesthetic objection to vinyl siding. With longer length panels, there are fewer seams.

For example, on a 20’ wall, a 16’ panel creates 35% fewer seams than a standard size panel, and a 20’ panel reduces seams by 100%. In short, the longer the panel the fewer seams. Longer lengths can also reduce the amount of time required to install siding since more area can be covered with fewer panels. Most longer length sidings are designed to be installed with their standard-size counterparts so that various sizes can be used together on a project for efficient utilization of material. CertainTeed offers our CedarBoards™ XL, our insulated siding in 16’8” length and Monogram™ 46L; is available in 16’8” in D4 Clapboard, 16’ in D5 Dutchlap as well as 20’ lengths in both D4 Clapboard and D5 Dutchlap.

What is Polymer Siding?

Polymer Siding. This kind of siding is made from polypropylene resin. The typical application for this kind of siding is Shake and Shingle cladding with a cedar pattern which can be used as a whole house application or in accent areas.

Polymer siding utilizes an injection molding process that enables the final product to have a highly defined three-dimensional pattern in a variety of styles, sizes and colors. The product mold is precisely shaped to give it the exact dimensions needed and it incorporates any other necessary configurational details, such as ribbing on the back for extra stability. The molten compound is injected into the mold, which is itself heated to a high temperature. Upon completion of this step the piece is finished, and all that remains is for it to cool down. Injection molded siding began to enter the market in the mid 1990s and has grown steadily in popularity ever since as processes have been improved, styles have been enhanced and colors increased.

CertainTeed offers six types of polymer siding under our Cedar Impressions® product category. Cedar Impressions include perfections shingles, rough-split shakes and half-round shingles to round out a complete offering. These distinctive polymer siding panels are available in up to 31 low-gloss colors with a wide variety of coordinating trim.

What is cedar shake siding?

CertainTeed offers a cedar shake style siding available in our Cedar Impressions® Polymer Siding and Northwoods® product line. The most realistic of polymer shakes and shingles, CertainTeed’s Cedar Impressions employs a process called TrueTexture™ in which real cedar shake boards are used to transfer their exact textures to the cedar shake siding product. This process imbues the final product with the highly detailed authentic appearance of natural cedar shake and shingle and cedar shake siding.

In addition, Cedar Impressions has reinforcing ribs on nail slots and lock tabs for improved strength. Ribs on the back of the panels provide structural stability for added protection against warping, cupping and/or distortion.

The patented PanelThermometer™ is featured on all Cedar Impressions siding. This feature displays panel temperature for accurate installation. The panels are also designed for straight-up installation for easier and faster applications. QuickReference™ nail mark indicators aide accurate nailing, and a Molded Perimeter Lock™ holds panels securely together while creating a seamless look.

The family of Cedar Impressions shake and shingle products includes six classic shake styles in perfection and rough-split textures, and the industry’s widest palette of designer colors, including dramatic dark hues, the refreshing lighter WaterColors™ and the soon to be available Naturals blended colors with the look of semi-transparent stained cedar.

All Cedar Impressions styles with the exception of Half Round shingles feature matching outside cornerposts for a truly authentic installation.

Our Northwoods panels also offer the authentic look of milled cedar shake shingles and are ideal for many architectural styles. The random shingle patterns provide the look of hand-split cedar. The three authentic profiles are designed to coordinate with other CertainTeed siding styles. Northwoods also offers the TrueTexture finish.
